Listening with the intent to reply often implies that there is either an image that is being threatened, an egoic aspect of us that wants to assert itself as the authority of truth and wisdom, or a part of us that doesn't want to be put into the position of being vulnerable. All of these need to be observed and forgotten about if we wish to be students of life. There is always room for improvement.
